    • Transcript of letter from George to Kate:-

"The Colony, Papworth Hall, Cambs, 7.1.1920
      Dear Kate,
Have been wanting to write also enclose postal order, it has been so wretchedly cold was not able to hold the pencil. Do not know how much the Sausage Rolls were, but I have enclosed postal order for 2/- for them and the chop. Being here do not know the cost of things so if there is not sufficient let me know when you send again as I do not want you to be out of pocket. When wanting you to send more will let you know and send the money at time. From what I hear you can get all the meat you want now without coupons if you have the money to pay. Is that right or not? Perhaps you may be able to get me a bit of Stuffed Pork ready cooked. Let me know how much a pound is so that I can send money.

With regard to your coming, why not come soon as you can whilst the weather is fairly good. The later you come the colder and rougher it will get. Do not know for certain but believe the visit will only be for about three hours probably in the afternoon. I asked Dr Jones, he said you could come by the Ambulance but must go to the Dispensary to make enquiries as to the day and time, also you might make sure of the cost. Let me know and I will get the fare to send you if you are unable to pay yourself. I think it is far better for you to come next week as I should like to see you.

It is far better for me to be here as the cost of living is so heavy. Of course one does not get the things they like the open air treatment this weather is hard but taking all things into consideration I am far better off here seeing that I am compelled to be in bed.

Let me know how you get on at the Dispensary and what you intend to do about coming next week.

      Love to you both,
      Your Affec Husband
      G Staden

To Mrs Staden, 96 Glisson Road, Cambridge."
