BEDFORDSHIRE TIMES & INDEPENDENT: BIGGLESWADE. A fire broke out in the cottage of Mrs S Pates, of Sun-street, on Wednesday morning. Mrs Pates and her children were in bed when one of the latter was awakened by dense smoke coming from the staircase which was alight. Mrs Pates opened the door to call for help and the draught excited the flames. The neighbours, however, succeeded in quenching the fire with buckets of water. Considerable damage was done, and the cause of the outbreak is unknown.
