The wedding was solemnized at Roxton Church on Saturday of Miss Ellen May Jones, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Jones, of White Cottage, Roxton, and Mr Maurice Arthur Pates, of 41 Lawrence Road, Biggleswade. The Vicar officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, was dressed in white suede crepe rayon, with bridal veil and orange blossom (the veil being lent by a friend). She also wore white satin shoes and hose to match, and carried a bouquet of carnations and tulips. She was attended by four bridesmaids, Miss F L Jones, her sister, Miss M M Jones, her niece, and the Misses R and J Bonfield (great-nieces of the bridegroom). The elder bridesmaid, Miss F L Jones, was dressed in an ankle-length dress of peach san crepe with white shoes and hose to match, and carried a bouquet of pink tulips. The three younger maids were dressed in ankle-length dresses of pale blue san crepe, with white shoes and hose to match, and carried bouquets of forget-me-nots. All four wore bandeaux round their hair to match their dresses and wore necklaces, the gifts of the bridegroom. The best man was Mr Percy Jones, of Sussex, brother of the bride. A reception was held at the Institute, where about forty guests were entertained. The presents included a dinner service from the bridegroom's fellow workers at the Brewery, Biggleswade. The future residence of Mr and Mrs Pates will be 141 Hitchin Street, Biggleswade. - 18 May 1934 - St Mary, Roxton, Beds Link to Google Earth
